Does anyone in the SWFL area know where I might be able to purchase and have installed a muzzle break for my Savage AXIS .270?

Thanks

do a search for rifle muzzle breaks and many will show up, and where to get them. as for installation check yellow pages or online for gunsmiths any should be able to do it but some are better/faster/cheaper than others, someone in your area should be able to steer you in the right direction. beware that often they will increase the sound levels and also risk of hearing damage. if the reason you are looking is to reduce recoil there are other and sometimes cheaper easier ways to go. going to a lighter bullet weight will help. also make sure the gun fits you correctly (that it is not too long/short for you) and you are holding it into your shoulder correctly and the scope is not too close/far or too high/low and you get the right sight picture with your check pressed firmly against the stock. then there are aftermarket recoil pads that do a good job. all these areas should be checked whether you get a brake or not and if they are all good you may not need one. most new guns today come with a length of pull (lop) of app 14 1/4" (distance from recoil pad to trigger), if you are not "Joe avg size you may need to have the stock cut down for you, I do as my lop is 13 1/4" like clothes one size doesn't fit all. good luck.

That's great advise from Nacho especially since a good muzzle break properly installed will probably run you more money than your rifle is worth. It would have to be a real special Savage to spend $300 or more on to have a muzzle break installed. My two cents.

I just had a Holland quick discharge muzzlebreak installed on my Tikka T3. I was shooting hefty charges behind a 150 gr bullet and this thing kicks less than my 243. What nacho said, though, is very true. EXTREMELY LOUD, good hearing protection is a must. What I had the gunsmith build for me is a thread protector so that I can remove the break, install it at the end of the muzzle and shoot without the break when I hunt. Paid 250 for the break installed, $50 for the thread protector. Am very happy with the results. Let me know if you would like to contact the gunsmith and I will provide his information.
