So the 835 and 500 can use the same barrels?

The Maverick 88 and the Mossy 500 can. Not so sure about the 835s though. I don't think they are compatible like the 88 and 500 are.

Your 835 is the smooth-bore 28" with the accu-mag chokes, not a rifled barrel?

the 835 was designed mainly as a turkey gun. the 500 and 835 CANNOT interchange barrels. i believe the 500 doesn't come in a 3 1/2. Changes were made to the 835 to reduce recoil when shooting 3 1/2" shells. cannot shot rifled slugs through the smooth bore barrel of the 835 either. the I.D. of the 835 barrel is actually a 10 guage then reduced down to 12, and ported. a slug would "bounce" around in the barrel.

yeah correct, you cannot interchange bbls between 500's and 835's. and m12's correct I have a mav in very good shape currently wearing the houge over molded stocks plus the reg stocks and hougue pistol grip with a 28" vent rib bbl, could let it go for what gun boy said if you want to do a ftf without any tax/shipping. and it will be the first time since 1975 I've been without a mossy. I usualy keep a couple 1- home defense pistol grip and another 1 or 2 as guest guns with real short stocks for kids/women. gotta see what all stocks/grips I have.
