A 22-year-old Seminole man is in serious condition after he put a pistol to his head and pulled the trigger in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to prove his girlfriend shouldn't be worried about the gun.
The first time Chaz Ursomanno pulled the trigger, nothing happened.
The second time, the gun fired.
Ursomanno, of 9391 87th Terrace North, is at Bay Front Hospital; his injuries are described as life-threatening.
Investigators say Ursomanno was showing his girlfriend the gun at about 2 a.m. at their apartment. When his girlfriend told him to put the gun away, he told her it was "safe and unloaded,'' put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
"Confident it was empty, he repeated this again,'' the sheriff's office news release states. "Unfortunately, the gun was loaded and this time it did fire.''
Homicide detectives are still investigating but say it looks as if the shooting was accidental.
