I ran into a gentlemen that I know the other day and he mentioned he had some shotguns for sale. 17 of them to be exact. A few of them are old. He has an old single shot Jc Higgins he says is worth about 1300. And a few others in the 1000-1500$ range. My question is this. Is a Marlin model 90 o/u worth $350? It is in very good shape. Not sure on the serial number or year it was made. The book says good to very good is $350-$425.
Any Winchester's?
Had to look up the Marlin 90 o/u and that's not a bad price if it is truly in good shape. But on the J.C.Higgins single shot for 1300, I'd question that one by about $1250, unless it is something documented as historical value. Maybe some of our resident gun experts can give you some better info.

I thought the same thing on the Higgins. It is some rare gun. I didn't believe it but he showed me the book value. Crazy. I tried to remember the model but I can't. I'm going to call him tomorrow and ask him.
J.C. Higgins is an old Sears & Roebuck brand, I think most of the firearms were made by High Standard, Marlin and Savage. I think in the early 60s they switched the brand to Ted Williams. My dad bought a JC Higgins .22 rifle in the mid 50's from Sears, and killed a ton of rabbits and squirrels with it. He passed it on to me a few years ago. I think it holds around 20 rounds, and has a built in retractable sling. It is surprisingly accurate, and I wouldn't take $1500 or more for it, mainly because of the sentimental value.
I think overall the guns made in that era were of great quality, but a single shot shotgun sold at Sears now being worth $1300? Wow, must be some kind of rare or special edition.
