Have you taken a look at the XDS .45?
It is exactly 1" thick. It's a little more pricey than the shield, but well worth it. I am on an XD forum.and I see them sell used sometimes (not often though) for a good price. And lets face it... With the excellent quality of XD and superior customer service, a used XD is as good as any other new gun.
Ok I will stop being a XD fanboy now. 😀
