my sister bought a model 500 410 cruiser. I believe one of the extractors on the bolt is broken. is there an easy fix for this, anybody know where i can find parts, is this dangerous, should she take it to a gunsmith? any help would be appreciated.
if the 410 is the same as the 12 ga, ez-pz. first make sure gun is unloaded if able. you will need to dissasemble. if you can get the action open 1/2 way unscrew barel nut and remove bbl. next there is a pin near the rear of the trigger on the reciever app 1/8- 1/4", press this out with a punch/chop stick (either direction).remove trigger assembly. there are 2 ejector rods, 1 on either side of the reciever resting in a track held in place with a protrusion into a hole in the reciever. my bet would be the action was racked too hard, bending one of these extractors, or maybe they are worn. order new ones from M.B., not too expensive. if there are live rounds in the gun basicly do the same carefully with the gun pointed in a safe direction and booger finger off the trigger. once the trigger assembly is removed you can see the extractor bars amd move them in to get stuck shell out then remove and any in the mag. they should then come out under the springs pressure. these extractors are made from cheap/soft metal and easily bent by racking the action fast up/down one handed real cool like on tv. kind of like holding your pistol sideways, lol. be carefull and consult the owners manual if you have one. the 2 extractors are totaly separate and not part of the bolt. 6 pieces total in the reciever: 2 piece bolt, 2 extractors, shell elevator, trigger group.
ok. nacho the terminology i used may not have been correct. the part that is broken is on the bolt. there is one that you can plainly see on the bolt when the action is closed. and on my 12 there is one on the backside of the bolt. the one on the backside of the bolt on the 410 is broken. this is a small metal peice that looks like it grabs the rim of the shotshell. not sure if it does or doesnt do anything. last trip to the range, there were some problems with shells not ejecting properly causing jams, and difficulty getting gun to fire, i didnt think she was racking hard enough.
OK, I think I know what you mean now. it's not one of the 2 separate ejector bars. for lack of proper terminology or manual I'll call it a "claw" the extractor I think it's called. . probably cost more to fix than replace. you never said if the gun was empty or loaded, or if you have a manual. call M.B., describe/ give part #/send pics, see how much they want for it, then decide if it's woth it to replace with a new part or try to find a used/broken/partial one for parts/ pieces. luckily the 500's and mavericks are very interchangeable (except the safety).
the gun is empty, i have looked at the online manual. I could field strip it down to where i could bring the bolt in to a smith, and maybe that would save her some money. they dont give a part number for this in the manual. it is pretty much the same as a 500, just everything is smaller.
