Finally have my shop at the house we bought in August up and running enough to be comfortable trying this AK BUILDING stuff.. lol.
I've assembled many firearms before, but building one is much more fun I must say.
I have a bunch of kits/parts from before the price craze, so I pulled out the cheapest 2 kits I wanted as beater guns and starting building.
1 ak47 egyptian maadi side folder
1 bulgarian ak74 fixed stock
both built on 80% polish blanks and finished with graphite black cerakote..
first was the bulgy then the maddi
learning curve's were getting the air hammer rivet tools finished properly to produce nice round heads and create better (thicker) bucking plates to get into hard to reach spaces. 2. leave the weld marks from the rails alone instead of trying to blend them into receiver as the cerakote is so thin that it doesn't fill in any voids at all but will actually make it look more pronounced because of the black color.
ak47 runs perfect from the start, ak74 is still getting a fail to feed once a mag (everything is still fairly tight on that build and will loosen up with use) also need some quality mags for the 74's as the tapco stuff could contribute to any feeding issue.
very nice! after i finish building the bolt action i am working on an ar or ak is next on the list.
builds 3 and 4
switched the rear ends on these to create something different (since i had 2 of each)
Bulgarian ak74 fixed stock kit with polish underfolder on top
Polish underfolder ak47 kit with bulgy fixed stock on bottom (still trying to find polish wood stock and am redoing a romanian stock to look like polish for time being)
Nice.
Very nice. I still have two parts kits ready to build but I don't have the tools to build them myself yet. Your rivets look nice though.
