That's the butt stock,he wants to take off the forestock. It's tricky to get it back together,it only goes back in one way.It takes a few minutes.

I'm replacing both. I bought a set, a forearm and a butt stock synthetic. I'll take it with me this weekend and screw with it

I got around to replacing it today. Surprisingly, the forearm was more difficult to replace. Had the locking nut not come loose easily, I would have had a setback. I watched a bunch of Youtube's on how to do it. They make a special tool, but everyone seems to use pliers. I gave it a shot of PB Blaster before I even tried to turn it. Those threads will booger up very easily, no doubt. It turned with little effort on the first try.
