My uncle uses .270 wsm for hunting hogs and deers.
Like everybody saying, it is very good caliber. You can think of it as a round with short and fat brass body. Made it as short-action caliber from regular .270 win but delivers hexx of a punch when it gets fired.
If I compare velocity of between .270 wsm and .30-06 with same weight of bullet, lets say 150gr, .270 wsm delivers almost 300ft/sec faster than the famous .30-06 cartridge. And also about 430 lb/ft more energy as well compare to .30-06.
Also the round will travel flatter than .30-06 as well.
But if I had to choose, I would go with .30-06.
First of all, It is way way cheaper, .30-06 is more than enough to hunt deers and hogs (hogs will go down with one single shot, guaranteed. Unless its hogzilla lol)
One box of .270 wsm is like 30-50 dollars according to the brand. .30-06 costs only 16-20 dollars according to the brand.
I love shooting and hunting. However, I am a student who needs to control my spending as well. So I can't and I an not gonna buy a rifle with caliber that costs ridiculous amount of money to shoot while I can just get a rifle with other lower cost calibers such as .30-06, .308, .270, and others, which Im sure that any of those calibers will get the job done easily against hogs and deers in FL.
