I am trying to decide on a new rifle in either 270 or 308. I would mostly be hunting deer and hog at ranges from 50 yards out to 200, maybe 300. What do ya'll prefer and why?

Either one will work. Both are good well pass the 500 yd mark. Ballistics are close. The only advantage of the 308 is more different bullet weights to choose from.

Just give me my browning 270 A Bolt it is the weapon of a dream. Never had such a "on target" weapon!

both fine calibers, but the 308 is a short action and better suited for a short carbine length bbl and ultralight platform and low powered variable scope. (IMO), not that it can't be had and work well with a full size stock/bbl/scope. for longer expected shots I'd opt for the 270 full size 24" bbl and 2-7, or 3x9 scope. I recently got my hands on a 1965-1975 rem mdl 700bdl in 270 with a 3x9 scope, what a nice gun, hate to have to give it back. I have both but pick the short ultralight 95% of the time and am good to 200yds easy. sooner or later you will likely have one of each.
