who died and left that guide boss? after all he is supposed to be working for you. hope his knowledge of finding elk is better than his knowledge of guns. a 300 short mag will shoot circles around an 06 with the same exact bullet, it basicly duplicates the 300 win mag in a short action round. and people have been killing elk quite dead with 270's for close to 75 yrs. also many have been taken at woods ranges with 30-30's, 25-06's, 308's, 7mm08's as well as arrows, don't quite understand his logic. just need to have good shot placement like any other type of hunting.
Some guides are like that. I just appreciate the input guys. I like the .270 and the 30-06. I just might put a WTB up here soon. Nacho, I actually started reloading a month ago or I prob would be more focused on the 30-06. I actually ran into a guy who sold me a .270 die set for 5 bucks! (I dont even have that caliber but I could not turn that down.) So, I am ready to go if I do happen to get one at some point.
couldn't be happier with my .270 WSM (with a limbsaver pad!) I know you didn't ask about WSM calibers, but thought I'd throw it out there. I was looking for a 30.06 and stumbled on this Tikka T3 Lite almost new and traded for it.
I opted for the 270 wsm also but the reg 270 would have worked just fine also. the wsm will give 2-300 more fps but burns more powder, sharper recoil, increased noise and muzzle blast and faster barrel wear, much more expensive to buy storebought, but will put an animal down a bit harder/faster. I'd give it an edge out west but not really needed here.
