I'm going to buy a crickett for my 9y/o daughter to get her shooting. She's done good with her red ryder and now it's time to step it up a bit. I started looking around and I found a deal on the 22wmr for a little more than the 22lr. Would you guys buy the wmr version as a starter gun or just stick with the lr?
It is easier to find wmr ammo than lr. If you have plenty or know where gou can get lr then go for it.
lr all the way in that particular gun. even if ammo is hard to find now, (get busy looking) due to ammo cost, and no real advantage for the magnum balisticaly in that gun, plus it's noisier. in a full sized bolt or lever and the kid were older, it's a whole other story. is the wmr cricket able to shoot lr's/shorts,cb's? I'm not sure but don't think so. if yes than maybe go for the wmr, but I don't think you would ever really need or want to use a 22 mag in a cricket.

What????
22LR is much much easier to find than .22 MAG (WMR) ammo. Maybe not right now in some lovcations, but generally .22 LR ammo is like buying 12 gauge shotgun shells. There are millions of rounds out there. Any guns show will always have .22LR ammo, can't say the same for .22 MAG.

.22LR all the way! Forget about the .22 MAG in that gun. Better yet, find her an old wooden stocked blued finish Winchester or Remington single shot bolt action that shoots .22LR, .22 LONG and .22 SHORT. I bought a very nice Winchester in 90% condition a few weeks ago at the Orlando Fairgrounds Gun Show for $160.00 out the door and it's an 82 year old beauty with probably another 82 years of life left in her. My grandfather left me one exactly like the one I recently purchased (Model 67) and he bought it in 1927 for $17.00. His is also a 90% condition gun. Now I have two that match like twins. Been looking for a long time and finally found one that fit the bill and hadn't been abused and beat to death.
