hey skunk ape, you can easily keep that deer on ice for a week, as long as you drain it and put more ice in it every day. we pack the chest cavity full of ice too, i usually do mine for a week and then either cut it up or take it to get it ground up. you could do a week no problem.

I actually froze the one for a day before returning to Fl,it had been on ice for about a week in temps from 38 to 41. The meat smelled very good and was clean,in fact the ice hardly melted.The other one I shot on Wed and is no concern. I've kept meat iced down for up to a week for years,I actually think it helps tenderize it and takes out any bad flavor,especially in boars. But somebody put a little fear in me,and said it would go bad.
