ANy of you guys cape out your deer heads for mounting? In the case that I score in MIssouri next week I don't know if I should try caping out a head myself for the return trip home or find a taxidermist up there. I dang sure don't want to ruin a good mount.

theres tons os stuff on youtube.. the guy who does the mounts for the forum DAVET charges a good price and he might be happy if you just bring him the whole deer so he can get what he needs.

I was worried about bringing home a head and it getting ruined,if I could bring a head home without freezing it I'd be ok,possibly 10 days in a cooler of ice is the problem. I think I'd prolly screw it up if I tried doing it myself, even with directions.

My friends killed some elk a few weeks ago and they were told you have to remove the entire skull. Skinning the eyes, nose, and lips. When I killed my 10 point I had a deep freeze to store it in,up there nothing. I'm pretty sure the head needs to be completely caped out and salted for transport if you are unable to freeze it.
