We had some company spend the weekend with us up at our house in N Fl this weekend. The weather sucked, to say the least. Yesterday morning we didn't even go out. The afternoon was not much better, We got out and rode around. Saw a bunch of deer which is a good thing for next year. We got in the woods a few minutes before dark and popped 2 squirrels with 22 pistols.
This morning it rained before daybreak and quit. We rode and listened in a few areas for gobbles, but none are talking yet(which Im glad for).
We got in the woods around 7:40 and were gonna make it a pistol only tournament. Well after 3 clips of bullets I had no squirrels to show for my efforts and my partner did not have any either.
We re-grouped, got our shotguns and got serious about it.
We had an absolute blast for about an hour of intense shooting and we both limited out by 9:15
Ended up hearing one hen yelping real heavy and no gobbler responded, so it looks like they should start a little later this year
Here's a couple pics
The other cool thing about small game season is looking at areas for next years deer set up. I don't tromp around the woods during hunting season, so this is the best opportunity of the year IMHO
I got 3 new spots for this coming season
Here are a couple of last fall's rubs
Good job looks like you made it a good weekend after all. Now get to cleaning. 😆
