Anyone taken your children to Ross Prairie before? If so, how is the squirrel, rabbit and dove hunting there? I want to take my son during the supervised small game season (probably Oct 16) and want to make sure that it is worth driving 104 miles from the house. I know it is kind of a long drive mostly to squirrel hunt (I guess), but I’m planning on making the trip an all day affair and spend some time at the Ross Prairie campground daily use area. Probably do a morning hunt, go to the picnic area for lunch and then back to hunt in the afternoon. Anyways, as long as we have fun and spend time outdoors together it is worth the drive.
Any feedback is appreciated.
i havent been to ross yet was thinking of it myself. but if you are gonna drive that far look into dexter mary's farms unit also known as dexters. they have have a few limited date hunts there and its slap full of oaks and squirrels! if ya go there let me know i will be there for the first opener two days after thanksgiving. also there is tigerbay rima ridge unit wich also has a limited dates of only small game and is also slap full of squirrels. if ya go there i can show ya around there also. just say the word.

Thanks for the replies. We will definitely make the trip to Ross Prairie next Saturday and will post how it goes. He is looking forward to go and have a chance to try his new shotgun chasing squirrels. Agree with you all, the future of our sports is on the hands of our young and we need to spend time with them. We just got back from the Green Swam (Friday to Sunday hunt) and he had his first try at sitting on a tree stand. He lasted 2 hours which is more than I expected.
