just got my answer from FWC online and am more confused now than before, you be the judges.
MY QUESTION: "does barrel length or having a pistol grip determine if a gun is a rifle or pistol? thank you."
THEIR ANSWER: "pistol (or any gun)is determined by it's overall length. "short barreled rifle" means a rifle having one or more barrels less than 16" in length and any weapon made from a rifle ( whether by alteration, modification,or otherwise)if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches. I hope this helps" LOL ARE THEY KIDDING? I think that defines what a short barreled rifle is but not what a pistol is, 26" with a 15" bbl seems like a damn big pistol to me. your thoughts?
What they are trying to say is, if it meets the criteria for being such a weapon, or is made from the weapon, it is still up to them to determine if it is still that weapon, unless it has been changed so much that it is no longer the same type of weapon, and now meets the criteria to be something else.
G.O. didn't know you spoke legalise.you musta went to the same schools lol. to me that defines those short barreled rifles like the ar's and ak's with bbls less than 16" with or with out a shortened stock or pistol grip. I'm looking for something simple like PISTOLS MAY POSESS A BBL NO LONGER THAN X INCHES. AND RIFLES MAY POSESS A BBL NO SHORTER THAN X INCHES. I believe in federal law it's 14 and 16 inches respectively, not sure about fla state law. thats why thompson contender pistol bbls have a max length of what 12-14" I believe, so I believe that would be the legal pistol length limit, jmo. any T.C. owners know?

Nacho, I think that is their way of saying "You bring to the woods what "YOU THINK" is legal and if you run into one of our FWC LEO's they will make a determination on the spot. P.S. - We can't foresee what the LEO's attitude toward you, your weapon, the weather, his job or life in general will be at that time." LOL
