so for the sake of argument a broom handled Mauser "PISTOL" with the regular pistol grip is considered a pistol, but when you attach the shoulder stock it becomes a rifle? I e-mailed the fwc about it and still think it's bbl length that determines whether it's a pistol or rifle, at least that's how it worked in N.Y., waiting for their reply.
Hi, all. I'm a newbie from P'cola and I agree, we need more clarity in the regulations. I asked my buddy in FWC about this one. His answer was if it has a rifled barrel and mounts to the shoulder, it's a rifle even if the shoulder stock is removable. He pointed out the Buntline special revolvers and broomhandle Mausers (like Nacho said). I asked him what the ruling was for pistols firing rifle calibers like the Thompson Center Contender and he said "If you hold it like a pistol, it's a pistol. But don't be surprised if another officer says different." Guess we'll just have to carry a copy of the regs and a dictionary around with us.
Nice site guys!
How about a 7.54 Rim? It's not a center fire rifle, can it be used for small game. ie hogs? 7.54 Rim is equivalent to a .30-06. FL FWC needs to clarify alot of things IMHO about FL huninting. This is one of the main reason you see so many trucks and SUV's with FL plates, mine included, headed north to GA Oct-Jan with 4 wheelers, dog boxes, coolers, trailers, and guys wearing camo... To much confusion...
7.54 r IS a centerfire rifle. The r refers to the rim that the extractor uses to move the shell.
its simple.. when you think of small game just think its only shotgun or .22 rimfire. that will end all confusion. If you choose to use a weird gun your making it weird for your self.
