I had thought it was about $600 to get started but my friend metioned that it is only about $150 - $200 to get started. I am looking to re-load for the savings and improved accuracy for my .30-06. Any tips on a good starting kit and where to purchase it. Looking for the best kit for the money.
try posting some ads on various sites, check newspapers, gun ranges/shops, and try to buy a used set up wher you get everything all at once. start with a new reloading manuel from the bullet mfg you think you'll be using, ( I'm partial to nosler partitions ) I'm sure others work as good or better but I've been using them for a long time and never had a problem. single stage presses are slower but simpler I'm still using the rcbs rockchucker I bought used in 1982. if you want to load alot of rounds fast like for pistol or shotgun a progressive press would probobly suit you better
i reolad.. just got bored with it.. lol.. ima start up again when i got time.. just got too much going on right now.
don't know how your bud came up with a price of $150-200 cuz a lb of powder is about 20 bucks ( and will load 150- 200 rounds depending on caliber and load ) a hundred primers $3-5, a hundred quality hunting bullets app $50, so your up to app $65 to load a hundred rounds if you already have all the gear and brass.still a huge savings of 20-30 bucks for 20 rounds, but these are premium rounds designed specificly for your gun only.as for gear: # 1 a good solid work bench, press, tumbler to clean brass, case trimmer, scale, powder dispenser, de-burring/chamfering machine or tool, bullet puller, dyes, don,t frget spare parts as things strip/break, xtra decapping pins, dye rings, media for the tumbler, reloading manuels, good lighting, a comfy seat and eye protection, also a micrometer, I'm probobly forgetting some stuff, but if you had to buy it all new it would be big bucks, try to buy the whole shebang from someones widow or heir, or who just don,t wanna do it any more.
like fldxt said midway or natchezss.com they have the rcbs rock chucker supreme master reloading kit for 280.00
