A fellow forum member and I met up for some hunting. We saw a good number of small bucks (he saw more then I did)and both missed a opportunity on a large buck ( I had no shot threw the thick cover, his gun jammed up) the first morning. The rut was in full swing!!!! That evening I shot a nice 7 in the neck he dropped in his spot and kicked for 15 min's. It was in tall palmettos so all I could see was the brush moving. I figured he'd bleed out so I let him lay, well I was wrong. After 15 min's he got up and walked off. I sat there watching as made his way threw the palmettos never having a shot. :bh: We let him sit for over two hours before we heading after him. We tracked his blood trail for 200+ yards and lost it. The next Am was slow compared to the last few days we saw a few does with no chasing and decided to get down and head home at 9am. Well at about 8:50 I had a doe come busting threw the palmettos at full speed out of breath. I could hear a buck grunting off in the distance. She winded me and stopped in her tracks. She was looking at me and back into the palmettos not sure what to do. Luckily she just decided to run off. I was waiting for the buck but he never showed up. After about 5 min's of waiting I started to text my buddy that i saw a doe getting ran and heard a buck when I heard another grunt, this time much closer. I put the phone away as he busted threw the palmettos. I quickly raised my gun and tried to slow him down. He has about 40 yards out and running I pulled the trigger and he walked off gushing blood. Oh I also shot a pig while I was there. What a great time with friends hunting and camping.
