That's right. They rut like that in the Apalach Nat. Forest too. As soon as our zone is closed we run dogs over there during the later part of their rut.
Our deer go in rut around the middle of Jan, and a second one about 28 days later which puts us in ML season.
Last year they were about a week early. But yes for the most part Jan 17 is the date I look for. I'm in Bay county, just north of Panama city beach.
They do rut late in that area. But you have to keep in mind, that that whole area of N Fl has a higher doe ratio per capita than any other area of the state. Been like that forever. So you will have a lot of does bred for a few months after the "rut". In the old lease we saw spotted fawns 5 -7 months out of the year.
