When I was little, probably 8 or 9, we drove through Llano County Texas during one of our moves. This was back in the early 70s. Llano County is considered the deer capital of Texas, and I remember seeing herds of them running off from the road. They had 12 foot fences along both sides of the highway, just trying to reduce the roadkill. But in the time it took to drive across the county, my parents counted almost 200 dead deer along the side of the road. These were not man-made deer herds, but just the natural population. It was like watching herds of antelope in Africa, the deer were all over the place!
