heard this from an old timer last week. just wondering if anyone has heard the same thing. has to do with the size of the horns you are rattling with. bigger antlers make a louder noise that will scare off young bucks. smaller horns will attract smaller bucks. has some thing to do with larger horns making a different sound than smaller ones.
sorry , i meant to say instead of a different sound, a different tone.
sounds fairly logical. i know one of my buddies rattled in a 10 point in hardee county during archery. i think he said when he started rattling he was actually using antlers, and when he needed to not be noticed as the deer got closer, he said he switched to a bag, and the deer walked to close to his father in law and he didn't get to shoot it cause his father in law killed it.
I use a big 6 point to rattle with. never had bigger than a 4 point come in but I have had more does come in to inspect the noise.Killed my 114 pound doe doing this.
