Hunted there back in the '96 when I was living in Ft Walton Beach. Me and a couple of Air Force buddies camped down the road a bit and were there each morning 15 minutes before they opened the gates. We never saw another soul besides the GW. It was cold and wind was blowing about 30 knots, on a full moon. We didn't have any stands set up, but found a few good places full of tracks and rubs, and judging by the tracks there were a lot of deer in that area. We sat, stalked, followed trails, did what we could but just didn't see any deer. They were moving at night though! We brushed out an area among some scrub oaks where it looked like they had been diddling, and the next morning it was full of tracks again. Only thing we saw were some turkeys that snuck up on one of my buddies. He was sitting with his back against a small oak, and dozed off. He woke up with about 20 turkeys right in front of him. He said he could have reached out and grabbed one hen. But when he moved, they took off! I was about 200 yards away and saw them fly off above the scrub oaks. Even though we didn't get anything, it was fun camping and being out there with my friends.

Good luck, and I hope you get that big 'un!

I hunted friday as planned.I was so excited about the hunt I only slept about an hour thursday night. I sat 40 ft up a pine tree all day in my tree lounge and saw nothing, I was beat. I was going to hunt today but when the alarm went off I thought about not going and kept hitting the snooze. I finally got up and was in my stand right at shooting light. A doe came from behind me about 20 mins later. She walked across the pine flat in front of me and disappeared into the next thicket. About 20 min later a deer came from the same thicket that she had walked into. I thought it was her until it paused and started hooking a bush. When he started to cross the flat coming straight to me I put the crosshairs on him and at 60 yards I pulled the trigger. He ran to within 30 yards of my climber and stopped. I thought I had missed until he just toppled over. He has a small 7 point basket rack, my first first black powder deer. Today was my 50th birthday, what a great present I would have missed out on if I had slept in.

I have tried several times to add a picture of my birthday buck and it will not attach. I will try to add it later.
