a buddy of mine that is a lil bit younger than me (im 21 he's 17) is interested in hunting. hes constantly hinting around about wanting to hunt. i hunt my uncles property on which my cousin lives. my cousin is a deputy sheriff and they let strictly family only hunt there. so that is completely outta the question. i've only hunted public land a few times. and i dont know much about it. so what do ya'll think is a good area to bring him to show him the basics and hopefully see some wildlife and hopefully harvest a deer? i live in summerfield which is not that far from ocala. (about 15 mins) so if ya'll could please give me some ideas of where we can hunt. and it would have to be somewhere where we only need hunting permit, management area stamp, and deer stamp, because its obviously too late to apply for a quota permit. i'd like to get him into hunting. he has nobody to teach him hunting. and i'd like to encourage someone else to hunt. its a wonderful thing. thanks guys!! :toast

Nothing ruins a good hunting spot quicker than bringing people. Take him to a wma.

if you plan on taking him out in ocala, there are 2 areas you can take him out in ocala national forest/wma that you can hunt without quota permits. You can hunt Hopkins prairie, and lake delancey. there are lots of deer and plenty of space. just be prepared for bear because there are plenty of them in the forest. I try to hunt hopkins prairie once a year but wont be making it this year. pick a spot, set a couple stands and be quiet. dont worry about how far off the road you are, just make sure you get back from asphalt roads. Good luck.

Id talk to your cousin the sheriff.maybe yall could work something out were yall could teach him to hunt safely and with good hunting morals before he is turned out on his own.Let him know that it is a tempuary thing

Thats outta the question. Ir is family owned private property and is for famiky only. Its only 65 acres but the deer frequent it regularly. I've tried askin about bringin a friend out there before didn't happen.
