I hunted three days last weekend. Saw a buck Friday morning, problem was, he saw me first, so you know how that ended. Sat and Sunday I saw no deer, but watched the sun come up and burn off the mist. Saw a bunch of other critters including squirrels, raccoons, and birds. A pygmy owl landed on a limb about six feet from me and just sat there staring at me like he knew I didn't belong there.
Next week we will start looking for fresh hog sign. It won't be hard to find, they seem to be everywhere this year. A fun game I play during small game season is "ding a dillo." If I see an armadillo I sneak up and try to get a shot with my .22 target pistol. I went 5 for 5 last year. Mini mags go through that armor like a can opener. Give it a try, its fun and great practice.
