Trying to get suggestions for stuff to bring to the field. I have only ever hunted from a permanent stand on private land or stalked on it (which is very tough due to dense mesquite and very limited sight lines). I was looking at a climber but again I have no idea what else to bring along, or if that will even work. Any help for a rookie would be greatly appreciated!

If you are gonna get a climber, you probably want to get a Summitt or an API. Both are in the same price range and both are comfy and user friendly. Next you need a safety harness and tree tether. It is a must for any tree stand.

As far as what other stuff you need? Most of the crap we carry are luxuries. A good compass, GPS, or smart phone with GPS apps, pocket knife, and thermacell are absolute necessities. A good flashlight, and marking tape or toilet paper are good ideas as well

Next question: is a climber even a good idea around here? Sorry for all the rookie questions :/

Climbers are a must on public lands. Gotta be able to move to another area easily, when game quit useing you're area , Or other hunters move in on you unexpected and set up to close. You will be able to pack up and move to another area in a few min. Without needin help from three buddys to move you're stand.

I know its my ass hanging from the tree, but what does the Summit or API offer over some generic one like from Academy. I'm on somewhat of a budget and really cant swing $300-400 for a climber 🙁
