Don't forget Honey Locust if you can find them and mushrooms they never turn down where they can find them. I have sat on persimmon groves for the last 5yrs (yes they are ripe at least the ones I tried) and have yet had a deer or pig come near them. Now turkeys that is another story.

One of the biggest food sources that is located almost everywhere are gall berry patches. Several times I have listened to Commission biologist speak of managing these and the protein is fairly high. Management included mowing, disking, burning, and fertlizing, anything to disturb the plant and cause it to put on new growth (not all a the same time!). We usually do a gut check after dressing a deer and always seems to be gallberry leaves in the gut. Treefarmer

I've noticed they (deer or hogs) don't really go crazy over wild oranges or tangerines, at least at the time/place where I was.

I noticed that too.
I've never seen a hog or deer eat any oranges at the grove next to my property.
Even ripe ones that had fallen never seems to get eaten.
