They also have decent game management practices in place.....but that is a different topic :rolleyes

Al is a deer a day either sex for the entire season,at least it was when I hunted there 4 years ago. GA just wiped out a bunch of does to accomadate the auto ins lobby. Trust me Allen I have 0 problem with managing private land or leased land to improve deer hunting, but as long as Foley owns millions of acres, there aint gonna be no doe killing.Even if FWC changes the rules you know Foley will say no does. And when laws are passed where 4 points are not legal, how you gonna feel telling your son "sorry boy he's not a legal deer anymore."

Foley allowed 100-150 doe tags per Camp miz/3 rivers for 3-4 years in a row and it was said at least double those tags issued were shot in each club per year. This hammered the populations, and in turn hurt the turnover of buck fawns that would be next year's legal bucks.

IMO I'd rather leave the does alone and run herds of them at a time. As long as they are producing the little bucks and we can hammer them instead and keep the population stable then I'm all for it. The days of killing 30+ bucks in front of dogs every single year will be back.

Back to topic- The rut is very, very weird here but the rut map is accurate. It's weird to see a buck rutting 5 miles west across in the western zone when the bucks in the adjacent zone have been out of rut for 2 months, but it surely happens.

Here's another reason...Not saying it is the reason, but it is A reason for such different times..

Florida is dotted with high fenced places, with imported deer from all over the country. If some of these deer get out, or the place goes out of business and they take the fences down, then those non-native deer breed with the Fl deer and spread their genes. Thats the theory behind the late jan/feb rut in Green Swamp, from the Wisconsin deer being imported in there years back

I know of a guy who imported deer to his families property here in Lutz back 20 or so years ago, and we have a much later rut in this area than 10 miles on the other side of town

I would have no problem with that...And you know me better than anyone, I am not a trophy hunter. I am a deer hunter. I am gonna sit out now, because I have my opinions on deer management in Florida, and they are different from yours. Well discuss it over some beers and a campfire this season
:cheers :cheers

IMO "no" doe harvest is just ignorant. ( no offense to anyone but my opinion) When Ohio first started doe harvesting, everyone cried your going to kill off the herd. Since then there are more deer than ever and more bucks. I am all for antler restrictions to take pressure off of spikes and small bucks but you have to control the doe herd. PERIOD !!!!!
