Think it could have been hit by a vehicle, since it was close to a road?

Doubtful. It was in the middle of the lease off a road you dang near need 4wd to drive on

What's the point of shooting it if such a rule exists? Not saying it happened on your club though. I'm just intrigued by TerribleTed's comment of seeing it all the time on WMA's and it being a casualty of the rules. Not sure I'm understanding.

Ok how far away can you tell if its a buck and how close does it have to be to see the points. Have you ever scoped a deer and said it a doe and it turns out to be an antlered buck. I know i have. I know i had a deer at 100 yards and i could not tell if it had three on one side. Watched it until it came to within 50 yard before i knew. There will always be miss identification.

Also do i really have to say there are some who ground check

Well then its quite simple. If you are unsure, you don't shoot. Can't get any easier than that

You shouldn't be shooting at anything if you can't identify it, IMO. Also this is why you should have a good pair of binos!
