It took a lot of points to get a nice the less crowded wma we were after. Had a heck of a start, got there Friday morning and and miss placed the paper work. Had to run down to walmart for a reprint. Got to the party late and where unable to get where we planned due to high water. So the search for fresh spots started. After a boring midday, we got a nice spot with rubs and scrapes, and maybe back up pigs if all else fails. Got settled down for the wait, watched lots of squirrels, about 5pm started to hear shots in the distance. Then I heard the sound most people dread from the direction Jay is in, a pop!
He must have something and just the cap went off. Now here's his story
So at about 6:00 He see's a young spike strolling along the edge of the cypress marsh he's set up on and it's in some thicker stuff so no immediate shot's are available until it's right next to his tree, upon which it starts to rub a tree bald. He take's aim and pop cap goes off no boom, buck stops for a moment and goes right back to rubbing. So now he's in a pickle and needs a new cap but movement might spook it off. So after what seem like an eternity of watching this guy rub his heart out. He hears a crashing sound from 100yds out and he see's a doe barreling in with another deer behind it. it turns out to be a nice buck whom proceeds to push the lil spike around. So now jay has the opportunity he needs to slip a new cap on from his bag ever so gingerly. Now with a new cap and another buck he begs for the gun to actually fire this time. He takes aim and boom and when the big cloud of smoke clears ( which seemed like forever!) there laid the biggest buck he's had the pleasure of seeing in the hunt woods. 10 point weighed in at 152lbs. estimate to be about 3 years of age.

Mighty fine deer and from public land to. Not to often does a miss fire turn out like that.
