There's a good book (can't recall the title) about a guy who made a fortune cutting out cows from the swamps and marshes back in the "cracker" days after the Civil War. They'd round them up a few hundred and drive them down to Tampa, Manatee, Punta Rassa, etc. and sell to the Cubans for gold. Some of my family came down from North Carolina and Alabama after the war and worked some of the drives. They didn't have Thermacells or DEET back then!

Best book ever writtenThat is a GREAT book!!! It educated this Yankee about Florida, for sure! I couldn't put it down!
Cross creek is another good book to read or watch the movie about MArjorie Kinnan RAwlings who wrote the "Yearling" I guess it's more like her autobiography. Good Cracker story.
what was it you bastoners called catfish?, it's on the tip of my tongue.
There's catfish and then there's horned pout- is that what you were thinkin'?

(And it's "Bawstonians"- unless you ain't from there!)

its all the same "yankee land"
You'd be surprised!!!! There's a LOT more differences among northerners than between you guys here in Dixie. NYC and The area around Boston are a lot alike (except sports-wise :rolleyes ). VT is close to Communist while NH is real conservative (although folks from Boston are bringing their political crap with them). Maine is a hodge-podge. RI is so crooked they don't know what they are. And CT is too rich to care. (Just expressing my personal opinion.)
Come south and Dixie is Dixie- hurt one, you get 'em all mad at you!
All I can tell you is, I'm happy to be down here!
(BTW- I didn't mean to highjack the thread on that nice buck!)
I don't care what they say bout you GB, you are ok in my book for a Yankee. Wish all yall were nice as you. And I won't hold being a Sox fan against you
