Bad weekend for game in our area 🙁 The ruts been over for at least a month, Full moon, high winds, and cool temps. oh well, ya cant win them all. 😆 😆

Yup fullmoon means theyre up feeding all night= less daylight activity.high winds makes them nervous cause they cant pinpoint sounds and smells. cool temps, put down the books and set up a stand in january and february and you wont see as much game as you will in june or july. the belief that deer move more in cold weather can be explained by hundreds of hunters in the woods kicking them up when the temps drop. trust me youll see alot more game during the archery season in areas that arent heavily pressured
my findings are complete opposite. the moon has no effect on deer movement at all. i see them and harvest them in all moon phases. i also find that deer move less in calm conditions and more in windy conditions. i expect due to being able to use the wind to their advantage. when it's calm, every little sound resonates. including their own. i also see more during the winter months. they are moving more to find food. in the spring and summer, food is abundant. why walk for food if it's right there?
this is not from any book. just from my own experiances of hunting. there is not one form of evidence that deer follow moon phases. zero. none. the best way to harvest a deer, is to put in the stand time, in an area where there are deer and learn their movements.
Correct me if In wrong, but isnt this your first season in florida? Deer habits are determined by thier enviroment. weather and habitat is much different than it is up north. animals evolve and addapt to thier surroundings. are deer are not a different kind of deer they only have different habits that requires a whole new way of thinking. I can give some examples if you like
they also say that you should fish the moon phases.. been there done that.. all you need is to have the right bait and present it the right way no matter what moon phase and they will bite!>. But hunting im not sure of.. ill tell you one thing. this weekend sucked!.. lol
most deer taken during a fullmoon are the youngsters who dont know any better. its all good but it doesnt help in areas with low populations.
Very slow weekend for me. On Sat. i didn't see anything. On Sun. I saw 3 does while walking in the cypress. Got tired of sitting and seeing nothing. Then Sun afternoon I broke the 4 wheel drive on my four wheeler and got stuck 8 miles from camp. Luckily there was one other buggy hunting deeper then me. They pulled me out. On the way back in I saw a mother panther and 3 of her cubs. The little ones (20 pounds or so ) were playing and tackling each other in the lights of my four wheeler. I was about 20 yards away from them. They did this for about 3 mins until mom pushed them into the wood line. That made my weekend. Full moon hunting is hard. Their was only 2 deer shot opening weekend.
