How stupid are these local government gun buy-back programs? I see Tampa just had one recently and they called it a "huge success". I wonder how many of those were stolen and then turned in for the $50, since it's a "no questions asked" deal? Do you think the police even try to determine if any of the guns were reported stolen and try to return them to their rightful owners? Basically our tax dollars get used to allow the cops to act as a fence for stolen goods. This has nothing to do with reducing crime, gun violence, accidental shootings, etc. Itt has been shown time and again that these programs do nothing towards those ends. They are merely a PR move by politicians who'd rather try to get votes than do something meaningful, like enforce the laws.

Wonder how the guvmint would react if I set up a small place down the road from the buy-back spot and offered to buy certain guns for $75 or even $100?

I do believe they would arrest you for dealing in those same stolen goods. They got a good monopoly going if you ask me. Nothing like arresting your competitor.

Some old guy turned in a 1911 in that mess the other day. I can't stand those things. They solve no problems

Ironic, I was thinking about making this same post the other day

Those programs are "feel good" only. Whats even worse is they destroy all of those items instead of auctioning. I mean we would not want to have these programs "create" money for the govt. Since only those who are properly cleared can purchase the guns, why would we not do this. Those programs are a total joke. Like a "bad guy" is going to turn his gun in...

Well, I'd only accept certain weapons, and I'd at least run the serial #'s through some online stolen gun searches:

FDLE - http://pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/item/displayGunSearch.a

http://www.stolenweapon.com/

http://www.hotgunz.com/

I'd also get ID and a signed statement from the seller, just like any other gun purchase from an individual. I figure legitimate sellers wouldn't mind doing that for any extra $25, and if they didn't want to, they can go get $50 from the cops.
