the second front came through in south carolina on friday, and it was pretty chilly. it drizzled and was misty all day. the first morning i didn't see a thing. that night i saw one doe that was small, maybe 50 lbs. other people saw deer. i tried a few different stands, and then on sunday evening i finally had an opportunity to take a shot. 2 of the 3 does that stepped out immediately looked straight at me and walked back in. they were about 280-300 yards away. the stand i was in gets sat in alot because of the high traffic from the deer. they get shot at alot by a couple of the club members, and those that survive know exactly where the stand is and whether or not there is a person in it. anyways, the third one didn't leave, she kept feeding and would not turn broadside. about 5 or 10 minutes of watching her through the scope, she finally turned broadside and i decided to take the shot. i pulled the trigger and all i heard was 'click'. i was like, what the :censored ! i hadn't chambered a round when i got to the stand and had to do it at that time. so i got the crosshairs back on her shoulders and squeezed the trigger and watched her stumble, and fall in the bushes. it was late in the day so i wanted to get to where i shot her as soon as i could so i could find the blood trail if necessary. i got down and stepped off from the stand to where i shot her cause i knew it was a long shot. i stopped counting somewhere in the 260's cause i saw the bushes shaking and knew she was still alive, so i ran up there to stop her suffering and put a second round in her. apparently i slightly pulled the first shot, and luckily it broke both her back legs and she couldn't run off. she was about 90lbs. lots of fat on her, very healthy, well fed deer. there were acorns everywhere up there, and when the wind wasn't blowing so hard, the deer were moving quite a bit. had fun, would have had more fun if we could have enjoyed the campfire more without the drizzlin rain. a good time was had by all.

Got the 243 sighted in today :rockon it was 3/8 of an inch to the right. And no difference up or down switching between 100 grain to a 85 grain bullet. Can't wait to see how those Barnes triple shock bullets perform.

i shoot the vital shoks with the ballistic tip in my .25-06 and love them.
the barnes triple shok are badass too, my buddy hunts with a .270 short mag and uses them and there is not a lot of tracking game after they get hit with that barnes. ill be using those in my .308 and ill try them in my 06 as well after my vital shoks are gone.

got a bobcat this weekend too. that was pretty cool. i was showing another guest around the property and we were taking the deer guts and stuff to the gut pile and in doing so came across a nice bobcat. hit her at about 100 yards with a .270 a bolt. that will be my next gun i believe, what a sweet shooting gun.

i am so impressed with the .25-06. just awesome how it performed. the damage that it did in the hams was astonishing. unfortunately the hams will be ground up, but that happens sometimes. i have a ruger and my buddy just got a brand new rem mod 700 and he had it up there and we sighted it in while there. well my scope does not do so well in low light situations, so for the evening hunt he told me to take his. the ziess (sp?) is so nice in low light. i had only fired the gun once after it was sighted in and loved it. nice recoil pad on it, really softened the blow. that gun shoots so flat, im gonna start stretchin out the distances at the range and really get it dialed in at long range. i think im gonna save up some $$$ and purchase a quality scope cause the difference is night and day, literally.
