Did a lot of time on a stool at Griff's in Inverness and used to bounce at a place called Riffy's down the road. Don't think Riffy's is still there but it was a blast in it's day. Hunted in Citrus WMA and occasionally in Ocala and fished all around Crystal River and Homosassa. Now I'm back home is Pensacola and lovin' it. Bass and redfish from the same stumps with gold-bladed spinnerbaits and seeing more deer than ever in Blackwater. It don't get MUCH better than this!
I live in Inverness so I know where Griff's is at... Haven't heard of Riffy's tho, so prob not around anymore. We might get lucky and be getting another lease in the Bear Creek area... So fingers crossed its better than the last. I'd be happy to see deer let alone shot anything. I'm deprived.
You do what you want, but there is better property out there than Westervelt/Bear Creek. I was in that for a year and half and managed one doe total.I think I managed seeing a total of 5 deer the entire time.
Since the 4 years since then I've killed about 12-15 deer and probably 30+ hogs. I was in a lease in Newport for 3 years that I absolutely loved, but left due to the bears and the property flooding constantly after 2" of rain.
Now I am in a little laid back lease outside of Mayo. My chances of killing a wall hanger are not that great, but I see game almost every sit. I managed a 6 point, a doe, and 11 hogs this season. I'm sure we will have openings this next season
The point is, don't jump on the first lease that comes available. There are a bunch and they will be more after turkey season
I agree completely Iluv2hunt but I go where the pops goes only cuz I don't have enough equipment to go off on my own just yet... I don't think I asked yet, but if you have the specs for your club send it my way. We were looking for a closer place also if we could afford doing both... We use to be off swindle on 27 but we moved on cause we were tired of just shooting hog and seeing no deer. But I'd give anything to shoot a hog right about now lol.
