Ramsay. 26. White male.
:chef

This will be my first year hunting. I prefer bows to firearms. Ive never held a real bow before.
Im taking the hunter safety course this weekend(Oct9&10TH) at knights trail.

Im working on carving my own bow and making my own arrows.(Aiming for 55-60LB)
Im currently using 10 strands of 80LB test stealth braid spiderwire fishing line braided together for a bowstring.
Once I get a deer(or a few rabbits) Ill use the sinew for bow backing material and the rawhide to make a new bowstring.

The bow is coming along nicely. Once I figure out where I can secure a tiller tree ill put on a long string and finish it up.
Sadly, I cant find any suitable arrow shaft material on my property and Id rather not steel from the woods. So arrows are still an area of concern.

Im planning on hunting small game eventhough Id prefer taking deer.(Too many hours of driving back and forth for me to want to take deer...)

I plan on using most of the parts of the animals I kill.
For instance teeth / rib bones / sexual organs / skull / ETC...I know of no use for, so those parts I wont be using...unless someone has some ideas for their use. (HINT, HINT)

Intestines = cordage
Intestine insides = bait
Meat, liver, heart, brains, eyeballs, blood, marrow = Meat
Fat= glue or soap
Sinew = cordage and bow backing material
Antlers = flint knapping tool
Bone of thigh = cutting tools / arrowheads
body hide = cordage or clothing or ...
Neck hide = quiver

Ive been reading this site for an hour a day for the past two days and Ive learned quite a bit.
Thank you all!

Welcome. Get in touch with Gloworm, he may be able to hook you up on making bows and such. As for using bones for arrowheads, you better read up on the regs. You have to use broadheads with a minimum cutting width. And your bow must also meet minimum draw poundage to hunt with legally.

A broadhead needs at least 2 blades and at least 7/8" cutting surface. I saw that on the FWC site, but thank you for the info. Ive spend plenty of time reading Floridas regulations since I wanted to hunt with an atlatl in Florida. Too bad I cant.

And yes, flhuntfish, 35LBS is the minimum.

I just realized that I should have posted this in the other newbie forum. Thanks for the PM flhuntfish.

May I simply copy and paste the text from my first post over into that forum?
