Decided to get out there 2x so far this week. Monday's tides looked good and the winds looked decent. This was also the first time that Fishinmom decided to get out there with me. As usual, it was pretty fun. Shrimping can be a enjoyable way to decompress. It really does not take that much to get started and it can be great exercise.

Monday we got out there right at dusk. I went over the basics and once the sun started setting we moved out to the flats. Shrimping was decent but not stellar. We ended up with mostly medium shrimp and some large. I purposely did not pick up the smalls. The total for both of us was 173.

Tuesday, I went out solo. I was bound and determined to get a good run of them. This time I waded out FAR and was rewarded. most of the larger ones were out away from shore. I also saw a TON of baby shrimp. There must have been a recent spawn. My net for the eve was 168 by myself.

This week I also was able to test out my latest version of the shrimp trap based on the older Ozello model (also based on the info that was published in the Florida Sportsman article years ago.). I built a second one for when I take guests out etc. I purchased an Ozello shrimper this year and just can't afford to buy another one. I made mine out of hardware cloth and zip ties. For a spring I am using lure wire. Mine is not at sturdy as the Ozello model but, it does the job. I am doing some more tweaking each time I go out. Overall, the real Ozello one is nice and sturdy. My wire mesh one is good, but needs some more work. (I enjoy projects so it was fun to build). Bottom-line, both needed to be painted black. That's very important.

Not sure if I will head out this eve or not. It sure was nice out there last night.

I like the bucket/board setup. That would be a great way to drag around a bait bucket and live well bucket for that matter, while wade fishing.

I was just thinking the same thing. Good idea there.

For what its worth... the hole size is key. If the holes are too small, the mud gets trapped in there too.
