A couple of years ago I was staying down at my Dad's place in Englewood overnight so we could get up early and do some fiberglass/paint work on his boat. About 6am he comes in and tells me he needs my help down at the dock. He'd got up early and went down to see tons of mullet swimming by the dock, and he threw his net and couldn't bring it in alone! It was all the two of us could do to get that thing on the dock, it had 27 of the biggest, fattest mullet I'd ever seen, the roe just oozing out of them. We finally got them all out of the net and on ice, then he threw the net again and caught 19 more. We could have stood there and caught 100 mullet an hour for 3 hours there were so many. But he won't eat them unless they are fresh, so we gave a bunch to his neighbors, I took home about 15 pound of fillets, and we smoked a half dozen for lunch.
Are the mullet coming back strong or are they still hard pressured??
This is just the easyest time of year to get them.
I just ask because when I left in 93 netting had played a toll on the mullet stocks.
Mid to late 80's I could find them year around. Now if it's not winter it's hard to find them. At least for me.
