Hello everyone as you may notice, I am a new member of the board. I would like to thank you all for accepting my registration and running such an information filled forum.

I'm going to be heading down to the northern section of St. Petersburg for a weeks time. My grandparents own a nice little condo there so I have been there a few times... but usually during the winter months. Anyway, I would like to go fishing as I usually do, but with a bit mote knowledgeable approach.

I have fished the area 3 or 4 times before, but never with much success. I mostly fished the Weedon Island dock and a few spots along the highway.

I have been reading LOTS of information on the internet about snook fishing, what baits to use, what time, etc. But am still sitting here with plenty of questions hoping you all could help me.

I'll present the questions in a bullet form to make them easier to answer;

1. Will my 7ft medium action spinning tackle w/ 10# line be efficient?

2. What is the most plentiful species of fish avalible from shore this time of year?

3. What bait are efficient in catching those species?

4. Would live bait or artificials be more affective, considering the cost?

5. What the most productive locations around the St. Petersburg area (accessible by shoreline)?

6. how far out are snook on beaches?

7. Any species of fish that are In-Season?

8. How do I fish Jigs and Spoons (what techniques)?

Thank you for your time, answering any of the above questions would be EXTREMELY appreciated! Feel free to email me at brendan_@live.com if you feel necessary.

Thanks,
-Brendan

right now there are..

Jacks, mackerel, snook, mangrove snapper, pompano, grouper, and all the usual bottom feeder fish out.

your setup is good. Just put o some 20 lb braided, and use a 30 lb flaurocarbon liter line.

Free line shrimp. no weights.. Any weights and the lack of liter line will not trick the snook. All other fish will go for it.

The snook are usually like 20 feet from any seawall on a in coming tide.

good luck!

Hahaha I'm not sure if you would enjoy hanging around with a 15 year old, and Vice Versa for me. Please let me know of any local hot spots so I can check them out though!
