Went to Flamingo on Sunday in the gheenoe. Only fished a 1/2 day. Lost a few reds on the flats on the outside and had a couple snook blow up on my topwater but that was it for what I was looking for. Did catch a few trash fish but had a good time anyways. Threw nothing but topwater all day. Amazing how shallow the gheenoe floats!
Went oceanside with a couple of buddies yesterday afternoon looking for bones and permit. Caught the last of the incoming tide and saw squat. Decided to hit another flat a little farther south and drifted over a huge hole on the flat. I started throwing topwater over the edge of the hole and had a huge grouper slam it but pulled the hook after a couple seconds. Took another drift across and hooked a small cuda on the topwater and just as I get it to the boat a HUGE cuda about 5' slams it and the game is on. Fought that 1 for about 5 min. and just as I'm getting him boatside he shakes and cuts me off.
Hit 1 more flat and decide to drift and hit the rum and cokes and see what comes around. About 5 rum and cokes later we called it a night. Nice to start getting on the water again. Gonna take the misses out for a ride on the Release Sunday and probably gonna hit a few flats while she gets some sun.
If it's anything like the last fishing trip we took I probably won't catch nothing but she'll get a red snapper. :rolleyes
Sounds like fun! Make sure she uses sun screen, maybe she won't get red!
