good luck gary! sounds like fun. i just got invited to go down to boca on wenesday, tarpon trip for a toilet install. thats the kind of sidework i really like. trip wenesday, and then a whole day trip on friday with my old man, cousin and uncle.
My dad wants to go out a few miles on Friday morning, but I have to work if I want Monday off as a paid holiday. But my son should get to go with him if the weather's good. Then Saturday we'll try to put some poon in the boat!
i almost forgot about getting monday off too. maybe ill get some wading in somewhere if the weather permits.
There may still be some fish around but usually alot of them move offshore to spawn on the full moon in june which was this past weekend..We went to skyway this past saturday and went 1 for 2..My wife and daughter shared the battle for about 30 minutes on a 120lb before gettin it boat side for a leader touch..unfortunately it broke off after that..so no pics..a friend of mine jumped 14 on sunday, 6 in the morning and 8 on the hill tide at egmont..2 of them got hammered, literally they got eaten by hammerheads..
on wenesday we followed some fish around the beaches with 15 or 20 other boats and they werent eating. capt said they would be in the pass around lunch time, early afternoon, so we decided to go catch bait and mess with the jewfish. we caught the bottom a couple times and then the fish made it to the pass. there was one boat hooked up for a couple minutes, and they lost the fish. the boat they were on would not start up so we ended up towing them back to the inlets. that ate up a good portion of the afternoon. we headed right back out to the pass and the storms started to move in. we made 3 drops and on the third drop i hooked my first tarpon. he came up about 30 yards in front of the boat and jumped. capt said he went about 135, not a big tarpon, but still a big fish in general. i sure had a blast. the fish was on for 10 or 15 minutes and the capt was doin a good job of staying on top of it and then he started darting back and forth rather irradically and the capt said a shark was most likely chasing him. no sooner than he said that and the line broke. then we got our asses handed to us by the storm. we hauled butt back to millers and there were huge white caps 4'ers rolling in to the marina. it was pretty rough. capt was dissapointed that we didn't catch much, so he invited us back. gonna try and go in a week or two again. all in all it was a good time. got to see a pile of tarpon, and got one on for a bit.
going out tomorrow out of bradenton on a charter with my dad, uncle and cousin. should be a good time. i havent been fishin with my dad in years.
