Sitting here at the house and it's POURING!!! I'm talking a gullywasher!. So much for getting there early. Radar looks like it might ease up some here around 0730. Good thing I'm only 10 minutes away.
Well it's moving waaaay slower than I thought. Today might be a wash.....LOL
I ended up going for as long as I could stand it. It was WET. Miserable WET.
They had the road closed so that took out me going to my original place I had in mind. So it turned into a big scouting trip. In the rain. It was WET.
I crossed 3 waist deep creeks.
Saw a half dozen turkeys. One of which was a hen that exploded out of the palmettos next me. I had been hearing a little "peep, peeeep" and was trying to find it when she took off. Scared the crap out of me. She was that real light color that blended in with the sand.....she left a couple little ones there "peeep, Peeeeep"ing in the rain. It was WET.
Saw 6 or 7 does. One of 'em had a fawn. I had the wind right and was just easing along a little trail with some fresh sign on it and I kept hearing the fawn "blah, blah"ing in a thicket about twenty yards away. I could hear mamma giving a little tending grunt and pretty soon out she came. She got CLOSE! The whole time she was giving that tending grunt. She saw me at about 10 yrds and lit out like her butt was on fire! It was pretty darn cool! But WET.
Didn't see any hogs.
Did I mention that it wasn't dry?
But you were out in the woods. I was in a classroom teaching then fixing a well pump switch. So I was wishing and wating for November.
We tried also, two places we had in mind could not be gotten to. Checked out some higher ground off a paved road saw two does and a turkey with chicks. No hog. We'll give it a go again tomorrow.
