captgeorge, I wish my season was like 1/10th as good as your's. Wife says the only way I'm gonna get a deer if it jumps out in front of my truck and commits suicide or decides to give up right in front of my stand.
i understand completly, the first 4 years i hunted i learned alot but no deer. pigs were easier, so i started with one bulldog.two seasons later i had a full kennel of 20 , even started breeding redbone hounds to pits and had the best of both breeds,, a bulldog with a nose. my friends kept the deer dogs and i had the pigs covered. i also have been blessed with hunting with the same group of people for 30 plus years, the only way the group gets bigger is by the amount of young-uns that hit the ground every year, lol. the pig numbers come from private property, helping the owners with control, over the summer those numbers will grow. the reward was the landowner and his family took 4 registry bucks this season that the pigs would run off otherwise. so dont give up yet,,, it only gets better :rockon :rockon
Thing is, I've been hunting for 30 years. Learned from my gramps at 10. The problem I've had over the past 6-8 years since we lost our lease when they built Harmony, is finding a descent place to hunt and a decent group of folks to hunt with. I've been in clubs in Alabama and Florida, and none have ended well. As soon as I get the area figured out, the club disbands and I can't get enough folks together to come up with the $$ to lease it myself. The last 2 clubs were the worst. Now I'm down to public land, and even with all my scouting knowing where the deer bed and where they eat, the weather and stray hunters have just ruined my hunting. I've gone so far as to hike 3-5 miles away from the nearest road/trail to get away from them, get there 2 hours before daylight, and sit ALL day, only to see zip. I did see several in archery, but that was on a quota, and by the time I figured out the new patterns, the hunt was over. Ugh! I'm gonna start hunting on 417. I see more long beards and deer on a daily basis there than I did hunting.
well i have been thinking about the monorail at busch gardens,,, you know a little safari,on a moving treestand,,,,,j/k
Sounds like a plan. Heated/Air Conditioned...kinda like a moving shootin house. I thought about a tree cable line setup in Alabama when we had a camp there. There were some good areas to hunt, but it was like wide open on the ground in the big white oaks for like a hundred yards in every direction gettin in. No way to sneak in w/o bein seen...But by air/cable 50' up in the trees, you could get right in and look down on the bedding areas.
Sweet! That sounds like a plan. Prolly could do it in my Tree lounge too. Course, the trees would hafta be pretty hefty to hold my fat a$$.
