Bored today so I made a mod to my camera. The biggest complaint to these cameras is the battery life. I am lucky to get 2 weeks out of tis camera, and the night flash pictures are weak. In the off season I need to get at least 1 month out of my cameras. I did a bit of research last nite and found plans on how to mod a 4 (C) cell camera to run off of a spring top 6v battery.Hopefully it will last a bit longer. We shall see
Materials needed:
1 piece of 1/2" CVPC
2 1/2" brass caps
Length of 2-strand wire
2-pack gator clips
Electrical tape
If you already have the tape and wire, the other stuff can be bought for <$2
Step 1. Determine which sides of the camera are the + and - sides. If you have any basic elec knowledge you can pretty much look at it and figure it out
*TIP*- If you touch wires to the springs and you see smoke, hook it up opposite :tequila
Wire gator clips to one end of wire, hook to battery and touch other end of wires to contacts in battery compartment till you find the right way it should be and the camera comes on
Disconnect wires from battery
Step 2. Strip wire back about 1/2", fold bare wire over end of CVPC, and place a brass cap over the end
Finished product with the cap on the CVPC should be the same length as a C battery. You will also need 2 dead C batteries to hold your new piece in place

You will probably need to cut and trim a few times to get the fit just right. When you get the fit, wrap the end in elec tape
Put everything together. If you have the same camera I do, this is the way it should fit. Remember, the batteries are completely dead, they are jut a space filler. You could cut a piece of dowel or something to do the same thing.
I drilled a hole in the bottom of the door just big enough to run the wires thru. I left enough slack inside so I don't have to push and pull wire thru the hole to get to my SD card or access the buttons

Only thing left to do is build a little box to house the battery in. I think I will get one of those water proof boxes from wally world and that should work fine
I even set it up and took a pic of my ugly mug
That is cool let use know how it works out. :rockon
unibomber.
Here are some game cam pics from my modified camera. Around 500 pics in less than 2 weeks, and the battery is still over 6.2v.
Very pleased with the results.
Next time I go out, I will remember to take some pics of the battery housing I made, and the custom camo job I did on the camera. I'm getting more sun light than I anticipated, so I will hook up the solar charger as well. However, I really want to do a full battery test to see how long it will last
cool, looks good.
