I'd try and get that 25-06 Ruger from DaveT for that. It would last forever and the 25-06 is probably one of the flatest shooting, plenty of velocity, and you could easily shoot Pronghorn and deer in the west and everything minus bear on the eastern seaboard. He might give you a great deal. Ammo is readily available for 25-06. The 25-06 caliber is a 30-06 round necked down to 25 caliber... I have one that is awesome... I have a .243 in a Rem 700 CDL that is a great flat shooter also. Know nothing about the Savage other than they just started making a better quailty gun in the last coupe of years. They have been around for a long time and have had a bad reputation for all the "Wal-mart/Kmart" guns they produced. Not sure they will ever be able to lose that reputation but it seems they are trying with the new Accutrigger system they are pushing.
25-06 is an excelent/accurate round ( probly my most accurate in a varmint set up 12 lbs ), but is a long action and you need a 24" bbl or longer to get best results, has very little recoil and will take bullet wts from 75gr-120gr. if youre strictly blind or stand hunting no biggie. but if planning on thick brush for hog you may want something with a little heavier bullet. the 7mm08/308's can be loaded light for long range and heavy for close range or with a 140-150gr for everything and good to 250yds easy.
Well said!
.270 but the .30-06 you can shoot bullets for small game like squirrel all the way up to bull elk!
you must have some bigass squirrels
Ok what I would like to know what size bullet would you use in a 50 cal smoke pole , when hunting hog? is 240 too small?
