We hunters are supposed to be conservationists...and that is one of the things that prevents us from having our rights stripped away. The money that we spend goes to help conserve what is left...without that the anti-s would have their way. The direction that outdoorsman have taken in the last 10-20 years is going to be what leads to the downfall of all our favorite activities. We no longer value the outdoors for what it is, only view it as ours for the taking. The anti's see that. It's pretty easy to see though, when all you read about is people shooting hogs in the gut to let them die slow or letting them lie to rot, or killing every snake they get anywhere near. Hell, walk through any public hunting area. You'll see 100x as many beer cans and other trash than animals. We're digging our own grave.

thanks for all the advice. I've been in rattler territory out west and never seen one up close until that one crock got.I always thought as you guys say a 300+ lb guy moving thru the woods should make enough ground vibration to measure on the richter scale and they should move oughta the way before I ever would see them. but in the few months I've hunted in this state I've already seen one guy step on a hog, another almost step on a rattler, had dillers and racoons almost in my lap and a huge bobcat at 20 yds.I never carried a back up sidearm in 30+ years hunting up north, but carry one down here in case the folliage gets to thick to make a scope effective/snakes/ or if something chases me up a tree. as for snake boots/chaps I haven't been able to find any that will fit around my calf. the clothes/shoe mfgrs all seem to think if your over 300lbs you must be six foot four or better and nothing fits right. some of us shorter guys get fat too. hopefully in the near future the wt will be coming off and I'll be able to find a pair

My honest opinion is if you need to shoot a snake why not just use the gun your hunting with? Unless you don't want to damage the skin.I really never had to kill any snake that I couldn't avoid if I wanted to.And if you get bit it I wouldn't be worrying about switching guns to kill it. I see absolutly no problem with shooting rat shot out of a pistol to kill a snake, just no good reason to carry for that purpose.

just get a stick. grab it and git r done. i shot mine cause i needed to shoot something out there already.

Once when I was a young kid I was hanging off a sapling dropping a deuce in the woods when I looked down and there was this giant diamondbackcopperheadedewatermocacoral snake trying to bite me in the bisquits.I reached down so quick and snapped that things neck then realized I forgot the TP.So I skinned it out and wiped with it's hide all using my free hand that wasn't holding on to the tree. True story.

:eek Now thats a bad MOFO :eek

YEAH, and I hear if bitten in exactly the right places the venom can cure hemmohroids, and work better than viagra. whenever i get a snake over six foot, I cut off the head, peel the skin off so it's entirely intact, like a sausage casing and use it as a condom with the scales facing out for her pleasure. who's next in the biggest liar competition?
