i want to buy a hunting handgun and am researching several different models
mainly the raging bull, ruger super black hawk, and the Thompson. i really am leading toward the revolver but the Thompson has always attracted me. if i get a wheel gun i would want a 454 if i get the Thompson i want the 308 or 7mm. what do you guys out there think. as far a quality goes how would you rank these guns both in accuracy and craftsmanship.

Have you had a chance to fire all of these? They are all fine weapons, but not for everybody, especially the revolvers. I've never cared for Ruger's stock grips and the hand angle on their big frame revolvers, but if you're like me I wouldn't leave the stock ones on there anyway.

For hunting I'd probably lean toward the Thompson Contender or Encore, as I feel they are more accurate, especially in hunting situations where you might want to use shooting sticks and scopes. Plus for what you'd spend on the revolvers, you could get a Thompson and have a barrel in .243 or .270 for deer, then another one in 7mm or larger for big hogs, bear, etc.

i have not shot the Thompson or the raging bull but i own a black hawk in 357 and like u have put after market hogue grips on it. i know the Thompsons are good hunting guns but i don't know if i would rather have an actual hunting revolver. i agree with you about the rugers though so i think my choices are between the Thompson and the raging bull. do you handgun hunt at all?

I have a Rossi stainless 357. I put different grips on it. I also have a s&w troopers model 357. BBoth are very accurate and I would have no problemo shooting at a deer or hog 30-40 yard with either one
