Well, since I lost my favorite Gerber skinning knife this winter, I figured I would treat myself to a new skinning knife. I had a Gerber with a gut hook in a sheath that I flat out lost. I had it clipped on my fanny pack and realized the buckle was undone and knife gone during turkey season. Ive torn the woods apart looking for it
I have a couple other knives in a sheath, so I ordered one primarily just for skinning.
Always heard good about the Dexter-Russell's. When I was in Colorado, they were all using them at the processing plant. And the butcher I use said thats all he has used for 40 years. He skins cattle, hogs, sheep, deer, etc every day and swears you only gotta hit it a couple times on a good steel to maintain an edge
Got the 6'' skinner, with the sani safe handle. Should be here early next week
they were popular where I'm from primarily for cleaning fish, low prices and were approved by board of health for commercial/restaurant work. you should get some mileage out of that.
When I got all my cleaning knives here recently I went with all dexter russell of that style. I would be interested in how that one performs! Thats the one I did not get for my hunting pack.
That thing looks sweet! Looks just like the knife my grandfather used when he was a butcher.
