in a 12 ga slug gun the very best accuracy will come from a rifled barrel (rifeling on the inside of the bbl), but you need to use sabot slugs that go for about 3$ or more each, but with a scope can be accurate well beyond 100 yds ( some claim 200 yds ) the downside other than the $ is they are a thicker heavier bbl and usualy 24", I have one and rarely use it anymore for those reasons plus the fact that that kind of accuracy is not needed and not worth the expense or lugging that kind of wt around for a 25-50 yd shot. hence a lot of guys are using shorter smoothbores and rifled slugs or buckshot.

I use the standard 12ga, 2 3/4 rifled slugs with a modified choke and it does well with my Benelli. No reason to spend more for slugs and a rifled barrel, now to get a laser for it!
